2021 Pause - Breathe Solo Exhibition

Pause - Breathe

1238 High Street, Armadale, Vic

Exhibition runs from Friday August 20 to Thursday September 2nd

Pause-Breathe is a series about taking a moment and being present. To live and flourish within our radically changing world we need time to process, to pause, to breathe.

Recently I was able to retreat to a secluded property, backing onto the Yengo National Park, in the Hunter region. Time to witness this mercurial changing environment was balm for my soul and gave me much needed perspective. Armed with my water colours, Japanese sketch book and yoga mat - this was my time to retreat after a busy year.

Early mornings started with a mystic white mist that engulfed the bush. As the sun rose it penetrated the trees with an intense golden light. Eventually the sky would break through and toggle between greys and blues, immersed and in awe of the cyclic nature of my surroundings I began my creative process , continuing a lifelong desire to link natural form and colour to the infinite.

Art W**k Episode 74

After listening to many podcast I was chuffed to be asked to be part of one. Julie Nicolson and Fiona Verity were hilarious and through a casual chat drilled down into my art practice and how it all came about in the most delightful way. Have a listen to where ever you stream  podcasts.

Travel And Stop Solo Exhibition

TRAVEL AND STOP

Solo exhibition at Studio Gallery Melbourne

Exhibition 1-15 November 2019

This current series is infused with the emotional response I feel when I am compelled to stop and take a moment to view a particular country scene and how being drawn to these moments in time, enhances my well-being.

I ponder on the role of memory as I interpret my surroundings. Australian panoramas blend with my English childhood recollections that saw me wearing a cherry red jacket to keep me snug in the snow. This colour has become symbolic in the collection, a focal point in the artworks, an actual stop sign.

Distant trees have morphed into geometric shapes and blend with organic forms creating my own figurative language. The colour pallete sits lightly between reality and poetry.

Recurring themes of roads and trees with the repetition and elimination of detail, creates a physical sense of order and personal harmony. Small vignettes are deliberately placed at the edges of the painting to lead the view outward and beyond.

These works continue to enhance my exploration of observational art where focused placement and scale creates semi-abstract art works that still time #artworksthatstilltime-
